OREANDA-NEWS. March 15, 2013. Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on March 13 said that the government has made the development of the livestock industry.

 "We were able to overcome the negative trend of reducing the production of meat and increase it by 3.4%. Already in 2012, the consumption of meat and meat products increased, according to preliminary data of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, by 1 kilogram," - the Head of Government said.

In addition, he said, thanks to the balanced state policy the government managed to increase the number of livestock farms of all categories. "With regard to performance in livestock at the beginning of the year, as of the last month of winter cattle population was 4.7 million head, it is 4.5% more compared to the same period last year. The number of pigs increased by 3.7%. However, the greatest growth has occurred in poultry - by 7.8%, to 206.4 million head,"- said Mykola Azarov.

Thanks to this the consumption of meat per person in 2012 increased by 1 kilogram.

However, he assured that the Government will continue to pursue a systematic work in this direction.
