Ukraine Uses New Technologies for Roads Construction
OREANDA-NEWS. March 15, 2013. During construction of new roads the road builders are adopting the use of a number of high-quality modern European technologies and materials. Among them the reinforcement of asphaltic pavement, application of asphaltic pavement on the cementitious modified polymers, construction of retaining walls with geosynthetics, production of asphaltic mixes with the use of new materials, cold recycling, etc. This was started by Infrastructure Minister Volodymyr Kozak during a briefing at the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
The minister said that of the 168 thousand km of Ukrainian roads vast majority built in the 60-70 years and today because of rising congestion they lose load capacity. "In that time load on road met transport of that time. If you look at vehicles 60-70 years production and new, especially for freight vehicles, there is a significant difference. Our roads have not been developed as fast as the car industry. Therefore, today our roads do not hold current load," Volodymyr Kozak said.
He said that today new roads in Ukraine, including during preparation for Euro 2012, are built based on modern technologies. "In recent years we have renovated with modern methods approximately 5000 km of roads. At present we are using new technologies. These are the reinforcement of asphaltic pavement, application of asphaltic pavement on the cementitious modified polymers, construction of retaining walls with geosynthetics, etc. These technologies give us a guarantee that the road will hold modern load," the Minister assured.
