OREANDA-NEWS. 5DRA geared diesel machinery, developed and manufactured by order of Central Design Bureau ‘Iceberg’ for Project 18280 special-purpose ship of the Russian Navy has been successfully tested with the involvement of representatives from several Ministries and Agencies at Kolomensky Zavod (part of CJSC Transmashholding). This was conveyed by the Holding’s PR Department.

The tests confirmed the compliance of 5DRA operating characteristics with the customer’s TDA requirements. The geared diesel machinery is recommended for the large-scale manufacture.

The Project 18280 ship is being built by OJSC Shipbuilding Plant ‘Severnaya Verf. The main propulsion installation of the Project 18280 ship comprises 2 5DRA geared diesel machineries and is designed to operate with the controllable pitch propeller providing for gradual output rise from part-load to normal operation. The geared diesel machinery is manufactured on the basis of 11D42 8-cylinder engine of 30/38 size with 1850 kW output (2516 hp). At present, the first geared diesel machinery is prepared for shipment to the shipyard; the second is going to be delivered for acceptance tests soon.

5DRA ship generator set is equipped with state-of-the-art electronic digital control system. The scope of delivery includes also interactive aids for diagnostics, technical reference and ship personnel training.
