Uzbekistan Develops National Press
OREANDA-NEWS. February 28, 2013. Proving the public with immediate and unbiased information is of great significance in developing civil society. This purpose is apparent in the processes of further developing the national press, ensuring free and effective work for journalists under the guidance of President Islam Karimov.
Based on the Concept of further deepening democratic reforms and developing civil society in the country, initiated by the head of state, the works on reforming information sphere, strengthening nexus between the government and society, improving public control over governmental bodies are carried out.
Uzbekistan national press centre has a special place in this. The Centre frequently organizes press conferences, briefings, round table talks on important socio-economic, cultural-educational themes in cooperation with ministries and agencies, committees, governmental and societal organisations. The results of consistent reforms in our country, pressing issues of our times are communicated to the general public via mass media.
The Centre reports that the number of events and organisation takin part in these dialogues have been increasing in recent years. While around 30 press conferences were held in 2009, in 2012 the number of these events topped 200.
Last year the Ministry of Health, the Central Bank, State committee of comminications, informatisation and telecommunications technologies, The Council of Federation of Trade Unions, “Makhalla” public charity fund, State Committee for Nature Protection and the State Customs Committee were particularly active.
These works will continue into this year as well, which will serve in increasing political activity of the public, in ensuring rights and freedoms of citizens in information sphere, transparency of the activity of governmental bodies.
