OREANDA-NEWS. Expanding the logistics system in Mozambique is key to increasing Vale’s business in the African country; therefore, one of our major logistics investments is the construction of the Nacala Corridor. The project, with an investment of USD 4.4 billion, will revamp the existing railway line and lay two new sections, including the final stretch that will lead to the new Nacala- a-Velha maritime terminal.

In the region, the coal that Vale produces is used by the steel industry, and is also harnessed for generating power. The expansion will reduce the cost of transporting ore to the Port of Nacala. Furthermore, the 230-km of new railway and 682-km of existing railway being recovered by Vale are vectors of development for the people of Mozambique and Malawi, allowing for the movement of many products.
