Second Shiploader for Sudeste Superport Arrives in Rio de Janeiro
OREANDA-NEWS. MMX, the EBX Group mining company, received its second shiploader for the Sudeste Superport. The first shiploader for the port terminal arrived in Itaguai, Rio de Janeiro, in early February. Built in China, these two pieces of equipment traveled 20 thousand kilometers from Shanghai to Brazil and have already been unloaded at the port terminal.
Each having a handling capacity of up to 12 thousand tons of iron ore per hour, these machines are the largest of their type in Brazil. Each shiploader stands about 50 meters high and weighs nearly two thousand tons. MMX has invested more than BRL 40 million in the purchase of these machines.
After unloading the second machine, the mechanical and electrical connections will be made. The equipment, which arrived ready-assembled from China, is mounted on rails at the Sudeste Superport pier and each of them can move up to 590 meters, which allows them to operate in both docking berths. The iron ore to be loaded in the Sudeste Superport will be fed to the shiploaders by a system of conveyor belts, which are also now in the process of being assembled.
After installation of the loaders and conveyor belts, the pre-operational testing phasewill begin. The Sudeste Superport will begin to operate this year. The two shiploaders will be used in the first phase of operations, when the Sudeste Superport will be able to export up to 50 million tons of iron ore per year.
