Rosatom Presented Projects at Asia Nuclear Business Platform
OREANDA-NEWS. Rosatom presented perspective projects at Asia Nuclear Business Platform in Hong Kong, 18-20 February.
On February 19 during the session on small and modular reactors Russian specialists presented their latest developments, including modular reactor on fast neutrons with lead-bismuth coolant (SVBR-100).
“Today in terms of the growing demand for energy, small reactors are one of the most promising areas. SVBR-100 project is designed by leading Russian scientific organizations and based on the technology applied for more than 80 reactor-years of trouble-free operation in nuclear propulsion systems”, noted Sergey Boyarkin, Director of ROSATOM’s programs.
Also on February 19 ROSATOM presented its main projects in the field of radiation technologies. The work is carried out within three areas: nuclear medicine, ecology and radiation sterilization. Participants of Asia Nuclear Business Platform got acquainted with such projects as the Russian production of modern equipment for radionuclide diagnostics and radiation therapy, the construction of high-tech industrial enterprises - radiation centers and plants for radiation decontamination of medical waste. Also presented was information on the production and supply of isotope products and radiopharmaceuticals.
On February 20 at Asia Nuclear Business Platform Yuri Sokolov, vice president of JSC Rusatom Overseas (ROSATOM’s subsidiary, responsible for international business development) presented ROSATOM’s approaches to international cooperation and the development of nuclear infrastructure. “Today Rosatom offers foreign customers an integrated approach that includes a full range of solutions - not only the construction of an NPP with the most modern technology and safety systems, but also the involvement of local industrial companies in a project, solution on financing and the transfer of experience and knowledge, personnel training, as well as legal support and creation of the necessary nuclear infrastructure. The latter is the most valuable for countries that are just beginning to develop nuclear energy industry. Creation of the nuclear infrastructure in order to provide the management and regulation of the national nuclear program is a basis for further realization of nuclear projects, including those to construct nuclear power plants. ROSATOM's approach includes not only the company’s long-term experience and IAEA recommendations, but also focuses on the needs of a certain country. We are already successfully cooperating in this field with such countries as Vietnam, Bangladesh, Belarus, and we are ready to expand the geography of cooperation”, said Yuri Sokolov.
