Boeing Receives USAF Contract for Integrated C4ISR Targeting Solution
OREANDA-NEWS. Boeing [NYSE: BA] will provide the U.S. Air Force with a lightweight, compact laser targeting system designed to improve the effectiveness of battlefield airmen on Close Air Support missions.
The USD 3 million contract award includes design, development, delivery, training and sustainment for the Line of Sight – Short (LOS-S) integrated targeting system, as well as priced options for production systems. With all options exercised, the contract has a potential total value of more than USD 100 million.
LOS-S, an evolution of a previous acquisition, offers improved target detection, recognition, laser designation and friendly-fire avoidance capabilities in a single lightweight unit.
"Our mission is to deliver complete C4ISR solutions that meet our customers' need for actionable information," said Mike Hettmann, general manager of Boeing subsidiary Argon ST and director of Tactical Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance. "LOS-S provides the Air Force intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and targeting in one easy-to-use, lightweight, hand-held device."
LOS-S supports the Air Force's Battlefield Air Operations Kit Program and its goal of upgrading the battlefield airman's equipment suite.
