OREANDA-NEWS. February 21, 2013. According to the Federal Treasury, in 2012 the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS Russia) brought 7 billion 388 million Rubles into the Treasury, spending 2 billion 423 million Rubles to support FAS work, reported the press-centre of FAS Russia.

The total amount of the paid fines breakdowns as follows: violations of the antimonopoly law - 6 billion 984 million Rubles, violations in advertising - 119 million Rubles, and violations of the law of the Russian Federation on state procurement - 225 million Rubles.

“Seven billions is the sum that exceeds government expenses for maintaining the Antimonopoly Service by more than threefold. The antimonopoly bodies of different countries across the world do not like to advertize it, but should an opportunity arrive they always point out that their existence brings only revenue to the state rather than losses”, commented the Head of FAS Analytical Department, Alexey Sushkevich.

“Obviously, replenishing the Treasury is not a goal in itself”, added Deputy Head of FAS Russia Andrey Tsyganov. “Big fines reflect significant public danger of the violations of the antimonopoly law. One should bear in mind that currently the size of fines and the fine calculation procedures taking into account mitigating and aggravating circumstances are specified in detail in the Code on Administrative Violations”.
