January – December of 2012

The aggregate throughput of seaborne cargo in Klaipeda Port and Butinges terminal in January – December of 2012 totalled 43,76 million tn, the overall year – on - year change was 3,9 percent down. 35,24 million tons were handled in Klaipeda Seaport throughout the analysed period, the year-on-year change was -3,7 pct. or -1,35 million tn, meanwhile Butinges terminal handled 8,52 million tn, the year-on-year change was -4,6 pct. or -0,4  million tn., reported the press-centre of Port of Klaipeda. 

Within the period of January – December of 2012 the handling volumes of agriculture products (+1 147,7 thou. tn yoy), raw and processed minerals and construction materials (+227,5 thou. tn yoy), iron ore (+157,4 thou. tn yoy) and), containerised cargoes (+92,5 thou. tn yoy) and peat (+88,5 thou. tn yoy) marked an increase comparing with the corresponding period of 2011.

The most significant drop down in cargo turnover throughout January – December of 2012 comparing with the corresponding period of 2011 occurred due to decreased handling volumes of bulk natural and chemical fertilizers (-1 880,8 thou. tn yoy), oil products (-879,2 thou. tn yoy) and crude oil (-413,4 thou. tn yoy).

In terms of cargo groups the handling volumes of liquid cargo decreased by 6,1 pct. yoy to 18 746,3 thou. tn (42,8 pct. of overall Port handling turnover).  General cargo handling volumes decreased by 0,7 pct. yoy, the overall turnover in this cargo group was 10 951,8 thou. tn (25,0 pct. of overall Port handling turnover). Dry and bulk cargo handling volumes decreased by 3,2 pct. yoy, the handling rates of this cargo category were 14 603,8 thou. tn (32,2 pct. of overall Port handling turnover).

7 414 vessels were reported to call Klaipeda Port and Butinges terminal throughout the period of January – December of 2012. 85 vessels (-5,6 pct. or less by 5 vessels yoy) moored at Butinges terminal. 4 953 international vessels (more by 114 vessels or +2,4 pct year-on-year) and 2 376 domestic ships ( more by 152  ships or 6,8 pct. yoy) were reported to call Klaipeda Port. Throughout the foregoing period of the current year 7 329 vessels were reported to call the Seaport of Klaipeda, hence the number of vessels calling Klaipeda Port increased by 266 vessels or by +3,8 pct. comparing with the corresponding period of 2011.

The number of passengers calling the Port throughout the analysed period was 340 067, i.e. more by 5,0 pct. or by 16 243 passengers comparing with the corresponding period of 2011. The number of cruise line passengers was 26 769, i.e. more by +24,6 pct. or +5 291 passenger comparing with the corresponding period of the last year.
