Azerbaijan’s Energy Operator Switches to ‘Smart Grids’
OREANDA-NEWS. Azerbaijan’s energy operator has announced a direction of the reconstruction of its distribution and transmission networks.
At today’s Baku press conference Azerenerji Strategic Development Department’s head Rafael Abbasov has stated that Azerenerji is currently working on the reconstruction of its network - this is one of the priorities of the investment program of the operator.
"Speech is not about replacing the mechanical cables or transformers, but about of raising the technological level of the distribution network. In particular, the reconstruction is carried out on technology “smart grid”, which will dramatically increase the efficiency of the distribution network and management of the power system in Azerbaijan," Abbasov said.
Work was initiated by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for the elimination of the technological gap between generating and transmitting capacities of Azerenerji.
"Thanks to wide state support, Azerenerji managed to modernize its generation capacity. Today we are among Top 50 energy companies in the region. Moreover, Azerenerji is ahead on the quality of its capacities – no one other power company in the region has so "young" and modern generating capacities,” Abbasov said.
At that, the process of modernization of the generation system has not been finished yet - construction of power station Cenub (Southern) with capacity of 780 MW is under completion and construction of second station Simal (Northern) with capacity of 500 MW is underway.
