SOCAR Won’t Compete with Gazprom on European Market
OREANDA-NEWS. Azerbaijan is sure to find customers for its "tsunami" of gas.
Today in Baku vice president of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) Elshad Nasirov has claimed that Azerbaijan does not compete with Gazprom on the European gas market.
"Some companies create artificial competition with Gazprom, but we don’t compete with them. Given our modest volumes, we can’t afford to compete with such a monopoly. The second point is that expected 20-30 bn cu m a year of "tsunami" of Azeri gas will find consumers, as the gas will be supplied not via a new route but via a new corridor. For example, the same South Stream is not just a new transport corridor, but also a new production facility for new consumers," Nasirov said.
According to Nasirov, history has shown that the energy sector is something that requires a re-evaluation for European consumers.
"Let’s remember the Ukrainian-Russian crisis, when the Bulgarians almost froze. This was the first signal that Europeans need re-evaluation of energy resources,” Nasirov said.
