OREANDA-NEWS. Paulo Francisco Zucula, Minister of Transport and Communication of Mozambique, visited Kimitsu Works of Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation (NSSMC).

In Mozambique, NSSMC is currently pushing forward the “Revuboe coking coal project”, envisaged as a major-scale high-potential supply source of high quality coking coal. For a successful implementation of this project, the improvement of railroads, ports and other infrastructures is a vitally important element. The minister responsible for such infrastructures inspected one of our mainstay steelworks, and had an understanding about the steel industry and coal use deepened.

The project is to produce high quality coking coal in the Tete Province of Mozambique. Annual output is planned to be 5 million tons, while the estimated reserve is 1,070 million tons. NSSMC and Nippon Steel Trading Co., Ltd. hold a 33.3% interest. The project is currently applying to acquire mining rights.
