KAMAZ Cooperates with Daimler
OREANDA-NEWS. At the end of 2013, KAMAZ will produce a test batch of long-haul tractors KAMAZ-5490 in cooperation with Daimler.
The first models of vehicles for long-distance transportation are currently being tested. They are made with the use of Daimler components – axles, engines, Axor cab frames. Much attention is given to fuel economy and safety.
At the same time, brand-new components will be used in the construction of production vehicles of the new range which will have been made by 2016. KAMAZ will stamp and weld cabs of various modifications with enlarged berths, and suppliers will provide interior and exterior components. Common Rail engines generating up to 500 hp, climate, on-board diagnostics and media systems developed jointly with Intel will very soon be used in the construction of standard KAMAZ vehicles.
Since KAMAZ adheres to a restrained pricing policy, new products with high consumer properties will be sold at competitive and quite moderate prices. The 2016 vehicle range will be a transitional phase on the way to revolutionary changes KAMAZ plans to introduce in 2020. Of course, modernization of this kind requires solid investments. According to Irek Gumerov, Deputy General Director of OJSC KAMAZ – Director of Development, this year the company is ready to allocate more than five billion rubles for development of new technologies. KAMAZ has never invested such an amount of money before. And Irek Gumerov considers that the company’s purpose is to master the production of the new model range, which requires close cooperation with partners.
