OREANDA-NEWS. February 06, 2013. Ukraine and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development are ready to continue cooperation and implement joint projects in various fields. The announcement was made during a meeting between Prime Minister Mykola Azarov and President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Suma Chakrabarti.

During the bilateral meeting was noted that for more than 20 years of cooperation between Ukraine and the EBRD many good projects were implemented.

"We appreciate the level of mutually beneficial cooperation between Ukraine and the EBRD. During the cooperation implemented 300 projects in the amount of 7.5 billion euros", Mykola Azarov said.

Thus he added that in 2013 year Ukraine will continue the implementation of various infrastructure projects, including those under contract with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. In particular, these are the construction of the overhead power transmission line of 750 kW Zaporizhzhya NPP - Kakhovka and subway in Dnipropetrovsk, improving transport link on auto-roads. In addition, Mykola Azarov stressed, Ukraine appreciates the possibility of reaching an agreement on the project "Integrated Programme to improve safety of nuclear units". Also, he said, it is important for Ukraine cooperation within the European Partnership Fund.

"In 2013, there are several projects in our portfolio. We could also offer banks the construction of the HV line Novoodeska - Arcyz, Metro in Kharkov and other interest objects", the Prime Minister said.

Moreover, Mykola Azarov expressed gratitude for the EBRD for assistance to Ukraine in the implementation of projects to overcome the consequences of the Chernobyl accident.

In turn, the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Suma Chakrabarti said that "for 20 years of the EBRD activity in Ukraine there were implemented a lot of projects. In 2012, 35 new projects were implemented totalling 950 million euros".

Suma Chakrabarti expressed interest of the Bank in further cooperation with Ukraine under the condition of improving the investment climate and increasing fighting corruption.

"We have a lot of promising investment projects, which we are ready to implement. In particular, in the field of infrastructure development, improve nuclear safety. It is also the municipal infrastructure, roads and railways. In Ukraine, there are many opportunities for such projects", the President of the EBRD said.
