Rosatom’s Unique Experience in Uranium Mining
OREANDA-NEWS. ARMZ Uranium Holding, the mining division of the Rosatom State Corporation, has released the book, “Uranium: Geology, Mining, Economics”. The book was written by Vadim Jivov, Chairman of the Board of Directors at ARMZ Uranium Holding and President of Uranium One Inc., Alexander Boitsov, Vice-President of Uranium One Inc., and Mikhail Shumilin, advisor on subsurface resources management at JSC Atomredmetzoloto.
“We wanted to summarize the world’s experience of solving raw material supply challenges in the nuclear industry and to lay out the foundations of the modern scientific approaches in assessing, searching for and developing uranium deposits,” noted Mikhail Shumilin.
The new book is the first attempt to approach uranium-related issues from different aspects. The book offers a popular yet strictly scientific explanation of all issues of the initial stage of the nuclear fuel cycle, from mineral exploration and uranium mining to recultivation of the production fields. The authors’ abundant practical experience contributes to the high informational value of the sections describing the efficient development of uranium projects as well as the global natural uranium market.
“This book, written in a simple and accessible language, will be interesting to anyone — both people who are making a career choice today and those interested in the global energy market, its perspectives and key development directions,” underlined in the book’s Preface Sergey Kiriyenko, the Director General of Rosatom State Corporation.
As part of the effort to develop partnership program with universities and attract young specialists to ARMZ enterprises, copies of the “Uranium: Geology, Mining, Economics” will be given to libraries of Russia’s leading professional learning institutions. “Today no company can undergo efficient development unless it prepares and engages qualified specialists by collaborating with universities, as well as forms its own knowledge base and unique competencies. We wrote the book relying, among other things, on international experience that ARMZ has acquired in recent years and its publication will help solve these tasks,” stated Vadim Jivov.
The book “Uranium: Geology, Mining, Economics” will be provided to the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, the Lomonosov Moscow State University (Geology Department), Moscow State Mining University, Russian State Geological Prospecting University n.a. Sergo Ordzhonikidze (MGRI-RSGPU), Tomsk Polytechnic University, Seversk State Technological Academy (National Research Nuclear University MEPhI branch), Irkutsk State Technical University, Trans-Baikal State University, Ural State Mining University, Kuzbass State Technical University, and other institutions.
