OREANDA-NEWS. The high-production beam reactor PIK (an abbreviation of the names of developers for the Petrov and Konoplev project) constructed in the St. Petersburg Institute of Nuclear Physics of B.P. Konstantinov RAN is a project run by electrical installation company OJSC SEM. In the past few days they have completed installation of 226 support columns and three kilometres of 6\0.4 kV power transmission cables.

These cables will ensure the supply of electricity to all the main building of the Institute of the Russian Academy of Science – St. Petersburg Institute of Nuclear Physics of B.P. Konstantinov (Gatchina, Leningrad Region).

Currently the specialists of OJSC SEM continue works to prepare the substation 100/6kV PS 58A for a series of comprehensive tests. After the completion of this stage the facility will be presented to representatives of the Rostekhnadzor for the issue of power plant operations certificate. Commissioning the substation is one of the necessary steps to ensure power startup of the PIK reactor.

JSC CONCERN TITAN-2 has accepted the general contract for the construction and commissioning of the PIK reactor in 2008. The ongoing work is an important step in the preparation for the startup of the reactor and development of the design capacity of 100 megawatts. With the release of this nuclear research reactor at full power the Russian and foreign scientists will have a powerful tool for solving fundamental and applied interdisciplinary problems in physics, chemistry, biology, medicine using neutron radiation with a neutron flux density greater than any overseas counterparts.

OJSC Sosnovoborelektromontazh is a part of the holding TITAN-2. For more than 40 years it has been successfully working with all types of electrical work, as well as developing design, engineering, production and process documentation. The specialists of OJSC SAM carried out a full range of electrical installation work under the first phase of construction of the South-West Power Station. The company was also contracted to perform electrical work on gas turbine station Novy Urengoy Gas Chemical Plant.
