BHP Billiton Donates AUD1 mn to Queensland Flood Appeal
OREANDA-NEWS. February 05, 2013. BHP Billiton has donated AUD 1 million to the Red Cross Queensland Flood Appeal to assist communities affected by the recent floods, reported the press-centre of BHP Billiton.
The contribution will be donated from the BHP Billiton Sustainable Communities fund and matches the Queensland Government’s AUD 1 million contribution.
BHP Billiton CEO Marius Kloppers said, “BHP Billiton has a long and proud history in Queensland and we are committed to supporting communities where we operate. We hope these funds will make a positive contribution to the state’s recovery program."
BHP Billiton Metallurgical Coal President Hubie van Dalsen said, “The donation will help to assist the people of Queensland, our employees and the affected communities in Central Queensland and Brisbane.”
BHP Billiton has around 13,500 employees and contractors in Queensland. Our joint venture operations comprise nine major metallurgical coal operations in the Bowen Basin and a major silver, lead and zinc mine at Cannington. The Company also has more than 900 people working in Brisbane.
BHP Billiton Sustainable Communities is a charity established by BHP Billiton as part of its community investment program.
