Belarusian Metal Plant Produces Ultra-Durable Metal Cord
OREANDA-NEWS. OJSC Belarusian Metallurgical Plant (BMZ, Zhlobin, Gomel Region) has started producing 3+2х0.35 UT ultra-durable metal cord from self-made rolled steel, the press-service of Belarus’ Industry Ministry reports.
To produce ultra-durable metal cord, BMZ used to import rolled steel manufactured by Germany’s Saarstahl. By introducing an import substitution scheme, the Belarusian company has reduced the prime cost of its products, thus giving itself a competitive boost.
As reported by the Industry Ministry, BMZ is one of the major suppliers of the 3+2х0.35 UT metal cord for Goodyear – one of the world’s most prominent manufacturers of automobile tyres.
In January 2013 alone BMZ shipped 20 tonnes of 4+3х0, 35 UT and 17 tonnes of 3+2х0.35 UT metal cord.
State-owned company Belarusian Metallurgical Plant was launched in 1984. BMZ exports about 85% of its output. Non-CIS countries account for more than 70% of the BMZ’s exports.
