OREANDA-NEWS. February 04, 2013. The natural gas consumption of Beijing reached 8.41 billion cubic meters in 2012, up 1.55 billion cubic meters compared with the 2011 figures. The growth rate went up to 22.6 percent, according to Beijing Gas Group Co., Ltd..

In order to improve its environmental quality, Beijing Gas Group Co., Ltd. invested 2.3 billion yuan (USD 369.5 million) in the construction of 17 plants and equipped 192.53 kilometers of gas pipelining in 2012, raising the daily gas supply to 62.65 million cubic meters. In addition, it completed 15 gas stations to provide gas to 1700 new buses and cars.

As of December 31, 2012, the number of Beijing's municipal gas users reached 6.06 million. Among them, 4.7 million use natural gas and 1.36 million use liquefied gas. Beijing residents cooking rate of gasification exceeded 99 percent. Natural gas consumption accounted for 14.5 percent of the city's overall energy consumption.

At present, the city's gas pipelining stretches out over 15,000 kilometers and covers the downtown area as well as 95 percent of its suburbs.

In 2013, Beijing will speed up the development of clean energy natural gas. Beijing Gas Group Co., Ltd. plans to purchase 9.3 billion cubic meters of natural gas to increase the consumption of natural gas by 12 percent. Meanwhile, it plans to attract 200,000 new natural gas users. Therefore, it will create 200 kilometers of new natural gas pipelining.
