OREANDA-NEWS. February 04, 2013. ICBC has been honored "Best Performing Energy-Saving Unit in Eleventh Five-Year Period" jointly presented by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Environmental Protection and Ministry of Finance. ICBC was the only large state-owned commercial bank to receive the honor, reported the press-centre of ICBC.

This year's competition aimed to recognize corporate, organizational and individual leadership in promoting energy-saving and reducing carbon emission, paving the way for building a beautiful China in the "Twelfth Five-Year" period. Due to the effort of ICBC in extending "green" credit and promoting energy saving and emission reduction, China Banking Regulatory Commission recommended ICBC to participate in the competition. Wining the honor is one way to beef up ICBC as a top player in this field at home and abroad, and also demonstrates industry recognition to ICBC's excellence in energy saving and emission reduction.

Since 2007, ICBC is the first bank in China to launch "green loan", a long-term strategy of ICBC to be a leading "green bank" in China and worldwide. Rules and policies are set up for extending "green loans" to companies engaged in ecological protection, clean energy, energy saving, emission reduction and revolving economy. Further, ICBC controls the risks that may cause negative impact to the environment and communities by monitoring "green loans" from drawdown to repayment.
