OREANDA-NEWS. February 04, 2013. The Regulations for allocation of means of the Subsidy Fund do not support small and medium-sized farming, - Valeriu Cosarciuc.
This was voiced by President of the National Federation of Farmers press conference. He pointed out that support is provided mostly to owners of consolidated lands. According to him, in 2013 the situation will be the same as in 2012, when 400 mln. leis of the Fund included only 72 mln. leis allotted to farmers, whereas large agricultural businesses were assigned for 328 mln. leis. Thus, large producers will have subventions of 3-5 mln. leis, meanwhile small farmers will hardly receive 5 thou. leis.

And all this will happen despite the fact that productivity of small farms is twice as much as productivity of consolidated lands and 70% of agricultural production is grown at small farms. According to Valeriu Cosarciuc, the Federation filed its proposals on allocation of agricultural subventions to authorities, but most of them were tossed aside.

For example, the Federation proposed to reduce subventions for purchases of equipment from 1 mln. leis to 300 thou. leis per each beneficiary, which would create equal conditions for all of them. According to ex President of the Federation Vasile Mirzenco, the Federation has nothing against large farms, but there are hundreds of thousands of small ones in Moldova, which need support for the development. Recently a lot of farms have closed and farmers have left Moldova in search of a living, Valeriu Cosarciuc stresses.

This gives evidence that governmental agricultural policies urge farmers to the closure of their businesses in Moldova”, concluded the President of the National Federation of Farmers.
