TNK-BP Helped Contractors to Enhance Transportation Safety in 2012
OREANDA-NEWS. February 04, 2013. TNK-BP reports a significant improvement of transportation safety performance in 2012. The number of road traffic accidents caused by the Company drivers and contractors fell 19%, and their frequency declined by 18%. Transportation safety is one of TNK-BP's unconditional priorities: the number of vehicles used in the Company operations comes up to more than 22,000 with over 90% of this fleet being owned by contractors, reported the press-centre of TNK-BP.
The Company has been implementing a consistent program aimed at road safety enhancement. The core of this program is the 2012/2013 Winter Road campaign, which started in September 2012. It comprises three elements: drivers' health and professional qualification checks; inspection of the Company's and contractors' motor vehicles fleet; as well as the inspection of the road network used in TNK-BP operations, including ice crossings, temporary winter roads and other transportation facilities.
TNK-BP adheres to most stringent international safety standards. In accordance with the relevant technical regulations, all TNK-BP and contractors' drivers must complete defensive driving training; otherwise they are not permitted to work at Company sites.
Elena Kompasenko, TNK-BP Vice President, Health, Safety and Environment, notes: "Transportation safety enhancement is a strategic goal, regarded as a priority by the Company top executives. In 2012, we demonstrated a positive trend and we will keep working on prevention of potential incidents on the roads both within the Company perimeter and among contractors."
