Uzbekistan Airways Reports on its Results and Prospects
OREANDA-NEWS. February 04, 2013. National Air Company Uzbekistan Airways completed 24 000 835 flights and carried 2.636 million passengers. Cargo volumes reached 40,000 tonnes, most of which was transported via Navoi airport.
These were the key figures for 2012 announced at a press conference in Tashkent of the national airline, established in accordance with the Decree of the President Islam Karimov on January 28, 1992.
According to Uzbekistan Airways Director General Valery Tyan extensive works to upgrade the domestic fleet with modern Western-built airliners have been carried out for 21 years since establishment of the company. The fleet added ten A320s in 2011, two Boeing-767-300-ER in 2012. In the near future delivery of two Boeing-767-300-ER and two new-generation aircraft Boeing-787-8 Dreamliners is expected.
It should be noted that last year was full of other important events for the national carrier. In particular Uzbekistan Airways was successfully passed IOSA audit. For achievements in safety it was received the award of "Safety" non-profit partnership and a diploma of the International Flight Safety Foundation.
Construction of a new training complex has followed fleet modernization and aims to maintain the flight training of pilots and provide necessary training to flight personnel. At present modern procedural simulators for Boeing-757/767, A320 and unique "Full-flight" stimulator for domestic Il-114-100 planes operate at the premises.
Modernization and upgrading of airports has also continued in order to ensure safety, quality services to passengers and aircraft.
Thus, a new block for departing passengers, which contains all the amenities, was commissioned at the Tashkent international airport.
A new passenger terminal at the Navoi international airport with a capacity of 400 passengers per hour, was put into operation in 2012. It is distinguished by modern equipment to alert passengers to the arrivals and departures, a smooth transition from one level to another, large areas for various shops and service points.
The intermodal logistics center at the Navoi airport has kept on increasing its capacities as well. At the moment the cargo terminal is handling up to 300 tons per day in average. Navoi international airport cooperates with major logistics centers of Eurasia.
Last year Uzbekistan airways technics confirmed its right to conduct A320 aircraft maintenance with EASA and Bermuda international certificates. In cooperation with Boeing an implementation schedule of a project to establish the first Central Asian regional workshop on repairing major structural components of aircraft made of composite materials, in particular the B-787-8 Dreamliner, is under discussion.
