OREANDA-NEWS. January 31, 2013. For the first time, Vale is ranked on the Global 100 list prepared by Corporate Knights, a Canadian company that specializes in sustainability. In its 9th edition, the 2013 ranking places Vale among the top 50 companies – 5 Brazilian companies are included on the list.

The announcement was made on January 23, at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. In all, more than 4,000 medium to large-scale companies were evaluated based on sustainability metrics, such as energy consumption, CO2 emissions, innovation and health and safety.

This year, Vale plans to invest USD 1.58 billion in socio-environmental initiatives – USD 1.265 billion has been earmarked for environmental protection and conservation, while a further USD 315 million will be channeled into social programs.
