OREANDA-NEWS. January 24, 2013. Russian Railways continues work on the integrated reconstruction of the section between Karymskaya – Zabaikalsk and in 2012 invested 9.5 billion roubles in the project. Fixed assets in the amount of 7.8 billion roubles were commissioned, reported the press-centre of RZD.

The Company completed the electrification of the 99.3 km stretch between Olovyannaya - Borzya, the reconstruction of Park "G" at Zabaikalsk station (2.9 km of station tracks) and the reconstruction of the first main track on the Karymskaya - Zabaikalsk stretch, and also developed Karymskaya station.

In addition, at Mogoitui station a 30-apartment house was built for employees working constantly on the technological side of shipments.

Work was also completed on the construction of the second track between Kharanor - Sidings 83 and 115 - Soktuy, the electrification of the stretch between Borzya – Zabaikalsk and the reconstruction of the 1435 mm sorting system at Zabaikalsk station, as well as on the construction of two 30-apartment houses at stations Olovyannaya and Mogoitui.

Due to the projected increase in the volume of foreign trade shipments through the Zabaikalsk border station, Russian Railways decided in 2007 to continue the comprehensive reconstruction of the Karymskaya - Zabaikalsk stretch with electrification as part of the investment project.

The reconstruction of the Karymskaya - Zabaikalsk stretch in 2006-2007 was carried out in the framework of the investment project "Oil Shipments to China."

Between 2007 and 2011, work was completed on the reconstruction of 207.48 km of the first main line on 24 stretches of the Karymskaya - Borzya route. In addition, continuous track was laid, two overpasses were erected, the locomotive depot at Karymskaya station was reconstructed, the 1st and 2nd stages in the reconstruction of Karymskaya station were completed and Olovyannaya station reconstructed.

During the same period, a new automatic locking system on the Karymskaya - Zabaikalsk stretch was commissioned, centralised traffic control installed between Olovyannaya - Borzya - Zabaikalsk and service housing constructed.

Electrification was carried out in three stages. In 2011, the first stage was completed and work performed on 148.4 km between Karymskaya - Olovyannaya. In December 2012, electrification was completed between Olovyannaya - Borzya. Similar work is scheduled to be carried out on the final section of the Borzya - Zabaikalsk line (117 km) between 2012-2014.

The Company has invested 35.3 billion roubles on the project since it began in 2007.
