Moldova Loses its Leadership in Supply of Apples to Russia
OREANDA-NEWS. January 24, 2013. This is indicated by findings provided by Russian Statistic Committee, Russian mass media inform.
In 2012, after Russia’s entering WTO, Poland seized the leading position on the apple market of RF, succeeding Moldova, which used to be the major supplier of apples to Russia from July to November.
Polish apples used to be imported to the Russian market in great amounts starting from January, when the import duty declined. Within the 5 months of 2012 close to 100 thou. t. of apples were imported from Moldova to Russia, 26% down as compared with 135 thousand tons imported within the same period of 2011.
At the same time, apple deliveries from Poland grew 2.6 times to 128 thou. t., making Poland, which was the third apple exporter in 2011, a pacemaker on the apple market of Russia in 2012.
