OREANDA-NEWS. January 24, 2013. In January 2013, the “Federal Passenger Company” OJSC (“FPK” OJSC) starts applying a dynamic pricing technology in the deregulated segment of passenger transportation in long-distance trains (compartments, first-class salons). The technology will be used for the routes with multi-service competition (passenger transportation by railway, car and air transportation) and is aimed at developing competition on the market of passenger transportation services by different types of transport, fixing equilibrium price for railway tickets.

The pilot project range includes 46 fast and passenger trains on 4 routes: “Moscow – St Petersburg – Moscow”, “Moscow – Smolensk – Moscow”, “Moscow – Voronezh – Moscow” and “Moscow – Nizhny Novgorod”. Sale of tickets for the above trains using the new technology was opened on 16th January 2013 for the trains departing from 1st March 2013.

The dynamic pricing technology for the tickets in the deregulated segment of long-distance trains means that the ticket prices are set, in particular, depending on how quickly the tickets are sold. Along with increasing tickets sale, the ticket price will go up. If the demand for transportation decreases and there are unsold tickets, prices of tickets will be reduced on the last day of sale.

Tickets for all trains, for which the dynamic pricing technology shall be used, shall be on sale 45 days before the departure; it will be possible to buy tickets on all stations along the train route without any restrictions. If the passenger flow increases sharply, additional trains can be included in the train schedule.

The number of couchette cars in the passenger trains on 4 routes: “Moscow – St Petersburg – Moscow”, “Moscow – Smolensk – Moscow”, “Moscow – Voronezh – Moscow” and “Moscow – Nizhny Novgorod” will not be reduced.

More detailed information can be found at the web-site of “Russian Railways” OJSC.

FAS will additionally publish information about the results of using the dynamic pricing technology for the tickets for “the pilot range” trains on its official web-site.
