OREANDA-NEWS. January 18, 2013. Last year, SEB Elu- ja pensionikindlustus disbursed 28 per cent more damages than in 2011. A total of 518 loss assessments totalling EUR 907 942 was disbursed, reported the press-centre of SEB.

“Last year, we disbursed a total of EUR 679 424 in the event of death, while EUR 393 950 of that loss amount was related to loan insurance, meaning that the insurance company paid the loan back to the bank in case of the death of the insured person. Temporary incapacity for work resulting from a domestic or sports related trauma, or a work or traffic accident is still leading among loss events. There were 404 insured events registered in 2011 and clients were disbursed EUR 133 129,” said Indrek Holst, Chairman of the Management Board, SEB Elu- ja Pensionikindlustus.

Last year, the insurance company denied disbursement of only 16 loss events (3 per cent of all loss events) because they were either not accidents or because the accident happened before the insurance contract entered into force. In only one of those cases did the client deem it necessary to challenge the decision of the insurance company.

Despite the unisex-principle that came into force on the market in December 2012, which stipulates an equal insurance premium for men and women when entering into an insurance contract, the claims statistics show clearly that men exhibit a riskier behaviour. 62 per cent of fatal loss events in 2012 were related to men, and last year the average age of men in the event of death was 47 while it was 57 for women.

“Besides insuring their property, clients are attaching increasing importance to insuring their life as well. SEB’s statistics show that clients are increasingly aware of the possible risks in life and last year there were nearly 1.5 times more life insurance contracts concluded than in 2011,” Holst added.
