OREANDA-NEWS.  January 17, 2013. 8 companies from 6 states apply for taking part in a tender to select a supervisor over rehabilitation of irrigation systems in Lopatna and Criuleani within the Compact program, backed by the government of the USA.

The applications for the tender were unsealed on January, 14, the press release of the Millennium Challenge Moldova runs. The applications were filed by companies from Moldova, Romania, France, the Netherlands, Spain and Italy, which will take part in the tender individually or as consortiums.

A winner will monitor implementation of building works, quality of building materials and works themselves. Besides, it will monitor observation of social and environmental requirements. As a result of the selection procedure, a winner will be concluded a contract with in spring of 2013.

The contract will be signed for 18 months, including the period of rehabilitation works and 12 months for notifying about possible imperfections. In line with rules of Millennium Challenge Corporation the set of documents of every applicant was unsealed at presence of representatives of bidders and the content of the proposals was written down in a special register. Financial proposals were sealed in separate envelopes and would be opened after feasibility assessments. The proposals will be considered in the nearest future by a group of experts, including independent international ones.

The tender to select a company rehabilitating the irrigations systems in Lopatna and Criuleani was prolonged till February, 5. Rehabilitation of irrigation systems of Moldova is one of the objectives of the Compact program, signed at the beginning of 2010 by the government of Moldova and the Millennium Challenge Corporation. Compact, stipulating a grant of USD 262 mln. for Moldova, has been realized by Millennium Challenge Moldova.

This money has been allotted by the USA to reduce poverty and boost an economic progress in Moldova. Implementation of projects on rehabilitation of irrigation systems has been assigned for USD 102 mln. by the USA government.

Up to date, in the area of the centralized irrigation system of Lopatna there have been close to 530 owners of agricultural lands form 4 settlements. 460 of them are members of the Association of Irrigation users. In the area of centralized irrigation of Criuleani there have been 500 farmers of which 300 are members of the Association.
