OREANDA-NEWS. January 16, 2013. Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has achieved a major milestone in the CIS region with the successful Renovation, Modernisation & Uprating (RMU) of the 2x4.75 MW Varjob Hydro Power Plant of M/s Barki Tojik in Tajikistan.

BHEL had undertaken the contract for Renovation, Modernisation & Uprating of the existing 2 units of 3.67 MW each to 4.75 MW each at the Varjob Hydro Power Plant, wherein BHEL had supplied the complete electro-mechanical package for the project. The project is funded by the Govt. of India.

The first unit of the project was synchronized earlier in November, 2012. Both the units have achieved uprated full load and are running successfully following the RMU job.

The plant was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Minister of Energy & Industry Mr. Gul Sherali, Govt. of Tajikistan and H.E. Ambassador of India in Tajikistan, Mr. Asith Bhattacharjee.

The successful completion of this project by BHEL will help in strengthening business relations between India and Tajikistan and open a new market for India in Tajikistan. It also reflects BHEL’s continued support to Tajikistan’s vision to develop its Hydro Energy sector which constitutes 4% of the total Hydro resources of the World and re-emphasises the Govt. of Tajikistan’s faith in the capability of BHEL which has a strong presence in the Central Asia and CIS region with references in Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan and Ukraine besides Tajikistan.

BHEL’s global reference spreads across 75 countries and includes the entire gamut of BHEL’s products and systems such as power plants (thermal, gas and hydro), turbines, generators, sub-stations, transformers, motors, solar photo voltaic modules, oilfield equipment and transportation equipment, etc.

The cumulative overseas installed capacity of BHEL manufactured power plants exceeds 9,000 MW in 22 countries. In addition, BHEL is currently executing power plant projects in as many as 19 countries to install 5,000 MW of equipment worth over USD 2 Billion.

Significantly, to date, BHEL has contracted equipment for about 550 units of hydro power equipment, enabling generation of more than 26,000 MW of power, out of which, equipment for about 5,000 MW generation capacity has been contracted outside India.

Other BHEL hydro installations overseas include Thailand, Malaysia, New Zealand, Taiwan, Tajikistan, Nepal and Bhutan. BHEL is also currently executing Hydro projects in Rwanda, Afghanistan, Vietnam, DR Congo and Bhutan.
