OREANDA-NEWS. January 15, 2013. Prime Minister Mykola Azarov introduced the new head of the National Bank of Ukraine Igor Sorkin. Prime Minister wished success the head of the NBU in the new position.

"When Mr. Arbuzov took position of the head of the National Bank, it was a period of fruitful cooperation and interaction between the National Bank and the Government. All difficult tasks that occurred were decided jointly and cohesively. I wish Igor Sorkin that this style of the work, such interaction and understanding of national problems and challenges would remain", Mykola Azarov said.

Prime Minister stressed that the well-organized information campaign of the NBU will help prevent panic among the population, which is being provoked by irresponsible politicians and experts and it makes national currency weak.

"As long as coordinated work of the President, the Government, the National Bank and the majority in Parliament exists, there will be no shocks in Ukraine - it is an axiom. The shock arises when there is no unity in the political leadership of the country in different directions when the economic and financial policy is pulled in opposite directions", Mykola Azarov said.

Former head of the National Bank, the First vice Prime Minister Serhiy Arbuzov said: "I am pleased that I hand over the administration to professional, who has dedicated his life to the work in the National Bank".

By-turn the head of the NBU Igor Sorkin thanked for the trust and ensured that he will pay attention at most to the stability of the hryvnia. "I consider my first priority to lower interest rates on loans, the crediting will develop and economy develops. Also, the primary task is to engage the banking system in those transformations that occur in our country"- the new head of the NBU said.

He also promised to develop noncash transactions and intensify cooperation with international financial institutions.

Recall On January 11th the Parliament supported the appointment of Igor Sorkin as head of the National Bank of Ukraine - 231 MPs voted aye. The President Viktor Yanukovych submitted to parliament candidacy of Igor Sorkin.

First Deputy Head of the National Bank Igor Sorkin was carried out head of the National Bank duties since Serhiy Arbuzov had been appointed the First vice Prime Minister of Ukraine on December 24.
