POSCO Held Memorial Event of Passing Away of Honorary Chairman
OREANDA-NEWS. January 10, 2013. POSCO held a 1st year memorial event of the passing away of Honorary Chairman Park Taejoon Park at the National Cemetery in Seoul and POSCO Center, reported the press-centre of POSCO.
Approximately 500 people attended the memorial event including bereaved family, CEO Chung Joonyang, current and former POSCO employees, National Assembly Speaker Kang Changhee, and figures from all fields.
The memorial event held at the Memorial Hall of the National Cemetery in Seoul started with condolatory addresses of National Assembly Speaker Kang Changhee and CEO Chung Joonyang, followed by a video and voice recording of Honorary Chairman Park Taejoon. Vocal Professor Kang Murim performed `A Thousand Winds` to cherish Honorary Chairman Park Taejoon.
CEO Chung Joonyang in his condolatory address said, ``Your memories and your spirit still live in the hearts of those left behind. We will rearm ourselves with the spirit of Park Taejoon and the fortitude of the founding generation, and overcome today`s crisis with innovation and creativity to secure the status of the world`s best steel company.``
After the event in the first floor lobby of POSCO Center, an embossed carving with the analects and image of Honorary Chairman Park Taejoon was unveiled, and an event was held to honor the publication of (The Park Taejoon Ideology, Opening the Future), which is a systemized collection of research papers on the Cheongam (Honorary Chairman Park Taejoon) ideology.
The embossed carving of Honorary Chairman Taejoon Park is a full-length image, at 7.5m in height, 4.0m in width, and 1.1m thick, in an `inversed carving` by Seoul National University Professor Lee Yongdeok. With the unique dimensions, it seems as if the carving follows and watches the movement of the viewer. To the left of the carving are the analects, ``This steelworks is built at the cost of our ancestors` blood. If we fail, we must all turn right and throw ourselves into the waters of Yeongil-man Bay.``
[The Park Taejoon Ideology, Opening the Future], featured at the publication event on this day, is a book on the research and analysis of Honorary Chairman Cheongam Park Taejoon`s ideology and life, jointly written by five people including Yonsei University Honorary Professor Song Bok as well as Choi Jindeok, Jeon Sangin, Kim Wangbae, and Baek Gibok, and edited by writer Lee Dae Hwan who also wrote the critical biography [of Park Taejoon].
The book features personal sides to the ideology of patriotism through steel production and education of Park Taejoon who founded POSCO and raised it into a leading global steel company, reflecting on and analyzing the ideology and spirit of the great Park Taejoon who created everything from scratch in his achievements.
Meanwhile, POSCO also prepared altars at the Seoul POSCO Center, as well as the main conference hall at POSCO headquarters and Gwangyang Oullim Gymnasium. Former and current employees who visited to make offerings remembered the days when Honorary Chairman Park Taejoon was alive, and pledged to overcome the global economic crisis by joining together in heart and will to follow his will.
