Fixed Component of Cigarette Excise Increased in Moldova
OREANDA-NEWS. January 09, 2013. The fixed component of the cigarette excise is increased from 20 to 30 leis per 1000 cigarettes, its ad valorum component is raised from 24% to 30% of the maximum retail price starting from January, 1, 2013.
These amendments to the fiscal policy were passed in July, 2012 and came into effect on January, 1, 2013. Earlier members of the Parliament tried to keep the ad valorum component of the excise at 24% and passed the respective amendments in the first reading n November, 2, 2013.
However, the draft was not read for the second time and, as a result, the initial version of the fiscal policy remained the same: starting from January, 1, 2013 both components were raised: the fixed one increased from 20 to 30 leis for 1000 thou. cigarettes and the ad valorum one grew from 24% to 30%.
The last time Moldova saw the increase in cigarette excises on January, 1, 2012. The fixed component was raised from10 to 20 leis for tipped cigarette excise and from 10.5 to 20 leis for non-tipped cigarettes. The ad valorum component grew from 18% to 24% of the maximal retail price.
