GMC Achieves Best Sales Year Since 2007
OREANDA-NEWS. January 08, 2013. GMC closed the 2012 calendar year with 413,881 total sales for a year-over-year gain of 4 percent. With retail sales up 2 percent, the brand recorded its third consecutive year of sales growth and its highest sales in five years, reported the press-centre of GM.
Over the past three years, GMC combined retail sales have grown by more than 54 percent.
GMC’s December sales, up a total 5 percent, represented the best month of 2012. December was GMC’s top retail sales month as well, despite sales being down 1 percent year over year.
“We’re carrying positive sales momentum into 2013, and our product portfolio is stronger than ever with vehicles like the new 2013 Acadia and popular Terrain,” said Brian Sweeney, vice president of GMC Sales and Service. “With even more new vehicles in the pipeline, our network of experienced dealers will have the tools it needs for more growth in the new year.”
GMC’s Denali sub-brand, which represents more than half of all Yukon full-size SUV sales and about a third of all Acadia midsize crossover sales, had its best year ever with retail sales up 5 percent. A new Terrain Denali was added in the second half of 2012, meaning every GMC vehicle currently available to retail customers offers a Denali model.
Terrain small SUV sales ended 2012 with retail sales up 11 percent, the largest increase for any GMC model. It was Terrain’s best year ever, in both total and retail sales, those to individual customers. December was Terrain’s best sales month for the year and its second-best month ever. Year-over-year sales for December increased by 16 percent retail and 49 percent total.
The Sierra full-size pickup continues as the brand’s best-selling nameplate, and its sales grew for the third consecutive year. There were 145,325 Sierras delivered to customers in 2012, a retail increase of 4 percent and a total increase of 5 percent.
Additionally, year-over-year Sierra sales for the month of December were up 12 percent retail and 13 percent total. It was Sierra’s best retail sales month since September 2008.
