Russian Brand, Colombian Producer
OREANDA-NEWS. December 28, 2012. KAMAZ successfully presented its products at the 13th International Motor Show – Salon Internacional del Automovil-2012 which was held in Bogota, the capital of Colombia. The company presented exhibits assembled at a plant in South America.
This major event is held every two years and gathers almost all world-known brands. The visitors showed increased interest in the production of KAMAZ which has been familiar to them since the 90-ies of the last century. KAMAZ vehicles are in high demand there also because Colombian customers are offered vehicles adapted to local conditions at affordable prices.
The authorities of Colombia have been interested in KAMAZ production for a long time. As far back as 2008, the former vice-president of Colombia Francisco Santos announced a desire to build a KAMAZ assembly plant on the territory of his country. And he noted that KAMAZ had successfully delivered its trucks to the region where it had no production enterprises. In 2011, KAMAZ opened its representative office in Colombia. Russia`s leading truck producer and its Colombian partners are currently implementing a joint project for the production of brand-name buses. Thus, special-type chassis developed by KAMAZ designers specially for this region are delivered to Colombia through Venezuela. The final assembly of the buses on these chassis is carried out at the Busscar plant in the Risaralda Department. So far, 16 buses have been assembled, but in early 2013 chassis for the assembly of 50 more buses will be delivered to the plant. Besides, KAMAZ was the first to begin the supply to Colombia of buses with automatic transmission. The company plans to sell buses for the new public transport system of Bogota, which is currently being formed. In addition, the automobile company expects to receive an order for special vehicles for the Colombian capital`s municipal services.
The company’s promoters in South America say that some enterprises refused to use Russian equipment in the 2000s as there were no service centers, so KAMAZ created the service infrastructure to meet its customers’ needs. KAMAZ managed to create an adequate supply of spare parts, to train service and repair experts, and ensure the fulfillment of warranty liabilities.
