Uzbekistan's Energy System Potential on Rise
OREANDA-NEWS. December 26, 2012. Representatives of the "Uzbekenergo" state joint stock company presented the main indicators for 2012, in particular, commissioning of new power facilities in Uzbekistan at the press conference, which was held at the National Press Centre of Uzbekistan.
Improving the efficiency of the electricity sector, which ensures sustainable energy savings for the fast-growing national economy, is one of the most important factors in successful implementation of economic and social transformations in the country. In order to ensure sustainable, dynamic and balanced development of the economy presidential resolutions "On the priorities of industrial development of Uzbekistan in 2011-2015" dated December 15, 2010 and "On the investment program of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2012" dated December 27, 2011 were adopted.
Deputy Chairman of the Uzbekenergo board R. Raimov highlighted the fact that in accordance with these documents implementation of the most important investment projects aimed at modernization and further development of thermal and hydroelectric stations, transmission and distribution networks are underway. In 2012 only 38 large investment projects that make better use of energy resources have been brought about.
It was noted that in 2012 extensive works Tolimarjon thermal power station has expanded due to construction of two combined cycle power plants, incinerators in the high-ash coal have been installed at the Angren thermal power station, the air line between the Syrdarya and the Novo-Angren thermal power stations has been commissioned. An automated system for monitoring and metering electricity has been introduced and blocks 1-5 of the Novo-Angren thermal power station converted to year-round burning coal.
Seven investment projects amounting to 239.13 million US dollars are being carried out with the assistance of the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan. Based on such funding, production lines of transformers in Tashkent and electronic meters in Navoi free industrial-economic zone are under construction.
Reconstruction of Kuyi Mazar of 220 kV substation has been finished. Commissioning of the facility has provided reliable power supplies to consumers in the Bukhara region, as well as to pumping stations of the Ministry of agriculture and water resources. Construction of 220 kV high-voltage line between Fazylman-Lochin substations, which provides reliable energy to Ferghana region, has been accomplished well ahead of schedule.
In September 2012 220 kV high-voltage line among Choponota - Sogdiana - Beaubourg substations were put into operation in Jambay district of Samarkand region. It will fully cover the needs of the MAN auto plant and the facilities of the Uzbekistan Railways.
Uzbekenergo plans to complete four more objects until the end of the year. One of them - a pilot wind power installation with a capacity of 750 kW in Tashkent region, which will provide energy to more than 1,000 houses.
176 sets of transformer points and 144 kilometers of power lines have been built in 11 months of 2012 in line with the presidential resolution on the program of contraction of houses in rural areas.
