ASSOCHAM Honours Tata Steel for Its Exemplary Contribution to CSR
OREANDA-NEWS. December 25, 2012. Tata Steel was conferred with the 'ASSOCHAM CSR Excellence Award 2012-13' by ASSOCHAM (Associated Chambers of Commerce & Industry of India) at the fifth edition of the ASSOCHAM CSR Summit held today in New Delhi. Tata Steel was announced as a winner in the Large Corporates Category and the award is recognition of their distinguished and commendable work done in the field of CSR.
The award is a recognition of Tata Steel's CSR models which takes ownership of several aspects like urban services, infrastructure development, healthcare facilities, and creation of sustainable livelihood in rural areas, disaster management and support of other non-profit organizations.
With Growing impetus of Corporate Sustainability as a concept among companies worldwide, the ASSOCHAM CSR Summit cum Excellence Awards discussed the holistic perspective of CSR in the region with insights from various stakeholders. The theme of the summit was "Empowering Sustainability - Promoting Responsibility".
Mr. Chanakya Chaudhary, Chief, Resident Executive , Tata Steel, Delhi and Mr. Prabhat Sharma, Head, Corporate Affairs , Tata Steel, Jamshedpur received the award on behalf of the company from honorable Chief Guest Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, Former President of India.
Reiterating the values that the company has always adopted as a benefactor for the community, Mr Sanjiv Paul, Vice President, Corporate Services, Tata Steel said, "We are proud to receive this esteemed award which truly exemplifies the highest values of society and corporate leadership for social responsibility and sustainable development initiatives.Tata Steel has always aimed at inclusive growth following responsible business practices that focus on sustainability, social and environmental growth. Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, Former President of India was the Chief Guest of the award ceremony and the key note address was delivered by Shri Sachin Pilot, Minister of State for Corporate Affairs (Independent Charge).
The other speakers present at the award ceremony were Justice R.C. Lahoti, Former Chief Justice of India, Ms. Laura Donovan, Chief Executive, Partners in Change, Mr. Rajkumar Dhoot, President, ASSOCHAM, Ms. Preeti Malhotra, Chairperson, ASSOCHAM National Council for Corporate Affairs & CSR and Mr. D.S. Rawat, Secretary General, ASSOCHAM.
Tata Steel's CSR initiatives have been recognized with many awards. Since 2006, the company has showcased an exceptional track record of receiving this coveted award initiated by the CII-ITC Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Development. Recently the company received the CNBC Asia's Corporate Social Responsibility Award at CNBC-TV 18 India Business Leader Awards and the corporate social responsibility award at the seventh edition of NDTV Profit Business Leadership Awards.
In addition to this, Tata Steel has been recognized by other prestigious awards such as CSR Excellence Award 2010 by ASSOCHAM, National CSR Committee and CSR organizing Committee; the Businessworld-FICCI-SEDF Corporate Social Responsibility Award 2009, and the Best Corporate Social Responsibility Practice Award at the 6th Social and Corporate Governance Awards 2010 by the Bombay Stock Exchange.
