Russia to Develop Piggyback Shipments
OREANDA-NEWS. December 20, 2012. The Federation Council of the Russian Federation plans to introduce a bill on the development of piggyback shipments in 2013, said Svetlana Orlova, the deputy chairwoman of the Federation Council, who was speaking at the final Board Meeting of Russian Railways in Moscow on 17 December 2012.
Piggyback technology entails transporting automobiles carrying cargo by rail.
According to Orlova, the bill on piggyback transportation is planned at the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly.
"Traffic jams in early December on the road between Saint-Petersburg - Moscow would not have occurred if Russia had been using piggyback transportation. We therefore support this bill and will prepare it during 2013," said Svetlana Orlova.
