OREANDA-NEWS. December 18, 2012. The Belarusian Economic Research and Outreach Centre (BEROC) has conducted a poll (201 business participants interviewed) to reveal that major obstacles, which impede the development of private and medium business in Belarus, are high inflation growth and macroeconomic instability.

BEROC expert Maria Akulova made a statement to this effect at a poll presentation on November 30.

54.7% of those polled admitted that the most pressing problems were high inflation growth and macroeconomic instability; obstacles to drawing investments (30.9%), high tax rates (26.8%), imperfect legislation, which makes private business companies vulnerable to abuse by government agencies (23.4%).

According to the findings of the poll, individuals employed in small and medium business enterprises fear starting their own business because of the difficulty of drawing investments (33%), high risks (25%), absence of business expertise.

Poll participants admit that although the authorities remain indifferent to private business growth, they are ready to contribute to a business project in exchange for a bribe.
