OREANDA-NEWS. December 18, 2012. A delegation from NPO Saturn headed by the company’s CEO Ilya Fedorov visited the all-Russian research institute for aviation materials (VIAM).

In the course of the visit the guests were shown the Institute’s research, production and test facilities, the laboratories, the certified small-capacity production areas as well as the Research center for high-gradient single-crystal blade casting process.

VIAM’s general manager, member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Evgeny Kablov presented the company’s newest developments, the prospects for the future and strategic fields of material development and the associated production process in the period of up to 2030.

Evgeny Kablov and Ilya Fedorov signed a Collaboration Agreement between NPO Saturn and VIAM. Pursuant to the document, the parties have agreed to carry out a joint research policy in the field of development and implementation of prospective materials and production processes to be used in gas-turbine engineering. The agreement provides for creation of a certified research laboratory in the frame of the innovation territorial cluster “Gas-turbine engineering and industrial-turbine machinery” as well as joint work on a number of subjects. Besides, the agreement stipulates training of the NPO Saturn specialists by VIAM’s experts and involvement of the main Russian research universities (Bauman Moscow Technical University and Solovyev Rybinsk Aviation Technical University) in the frame of the common research activity.

After signing the Collaboration Agreement, Evgey Kablov noted, “the aim of this Agreement is to facilitate the development of Russian engine building as well as to expand the new materials and production processes market with regard to innovation projects in the field of engine building”.

According to Ilya Fedorov, “with signature of the Collaboration Agreement the longstanding cooperation between NPO Saturn and VIAM has made a definitive step forward regarding the research, testing, development and implementation of new prospective materials and technologies in the design of gas-turbine engines which is an integral part of creating a robust research backlog for NPO Saturn as well as for the entire Russian aviation industry”.
