OREANDA-NEWS. December 17, 2012. The contract for these works was made between JSC Metrostroy and the Holding's subsidiary ZARUBEZHENERGOMONTAZH, JSC. The preparation for installation of the second-priority equipment for the reactor building has already started.

Currently, another TITAN-2 Holding's subsidiary, OJSC UAT, is performing earth works to prepare the area for the mock-up pre-assembly of the crane. After the arrival of all parts (the total weight of equipment is 375 tons), achievement of the reactor building construction preparedness and completion of the mock-up pre-assembly of the crane bridge, the specialists from ZARUBEZHENERGOMONTAZH, JSC will tackle the lifting mechanism to its proper location and will start its installation.

The polar crane (the lifting capacity over 360 tons) will be located under the cone of containment building at 42 meter-mark. The crane runs along the circular rail over the reactor pit which allows it to perform transport operations at any point of the building. Completion of the crane assembly will become another key event which will give the builders the opportunity for the further lifting tackle of the heavy-weight equipment. All the equipment, such as reactor vessel, steam generators, a compensator, main circulation pipelines and pumps will be tackled and further on will be installed at its project location using this lifting mechanism. And after NPP commissioning, the crane will become an irreplaceable part of the reactor hall and will be used during the repair works and reactor fuel transport.

The polar crane is supposed to be commissioned in the first half of the coming year.

TITAN-2 Holding is the largest Group of Companies in the North-West of Russia which erects the most important facilities of nuclear industry and power engineering. Its organizations perform the full cycle of building and assembly works: from development of design documentation to the facility commissioning. TITAN-2 is one of contractors for building and assembly works in construction of power units 1 and 2 of Leningrad NPP-2. Prior to the end of 2012, the Holding builders are going to complete the construction part of works for all the buildings of the turbine island of power unit No. 1 at Leningrad NPP-2.
