OREANDA-NEWS. December 14, 2012. GSPI and SverdNIIkhimmash (both companies are part of ROSATOM’s machine engineering division, Atomenergomash) have announced their ascension to the penta-lateral consortium for decommissioning of nuclear and radiation hazardous facilities (NRHF) and spent nuclear fuel (SNF) and radioactive waste (RAW).

The new association is set up under the auspices of ROSATOM and incorporates NIAEP-Atomstroyexport (NIAEP-ASE), the German company NUKEM Technologies GmbH, which 100% shares are owned by NIAEP-ASE, and SverdNIIkhimmash.

“The massive demand for NPP and nuclear legacy facilities decommissioning projects in Russia gives an opportunity of shaping, inside the state-owned corporation (ROSATOM), a business with competitive competences in implementation of turn-key projects. The business which is capable of operating not only in this country but also entering the foreign growing decommissioning markets,” Ivan Borisov, the Director for Development and Restructuring of ROSATOM, said.

“We seek to create a systemic industry-wide contractor who possesses competences in the project and technology management, equipment design, manufacture and kitting, as well as construction and installation. The experience, knowledge and reputation of the five companies allow challenging ourselves with rather serious problems,” Ilya Vergizaev, the Director of GSPI said.

“Our company, which has a broad experience in decommissioning of NRHF in Germany, France and other countries, will be happy to merge efforts with the Russian partners to serve the market in Russia and abroad,” Ulf Kutscher, the Managing Director of NUKEM Technologies, emphasized.

Raul Karimov, the Director General of SverdNIIkhimmash, noted that “all roles are clearly allocated in the consortium.” In practical plane this looks as follows: GSPI carries out the domestic marketing, project works and integrated engineering radiological surveys (IERS). NUKEM Technologies’ task is the international marketing, implementation of relevant technologies and programs of NRHF decommissioning and SNF and RAW project management. SverdNIIkhimmash is in design, manufacture and supply of special-purpose equipment, while the united company NIAEP-ASE acts as the principal contractor.

The consortium establishment is the logical follow-up of the partnership of GSPI and NUKEM Technologies, which signed a bilateral cooperation agreement concerning NRHF decommissioning in October 2012.
