FHI General-Purpose Engines Marks 30 Million Units
OREANDA-NEWS. December 13, 2012. Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (FHI), the maker of Subaru automobiles, marked cumulative production of 30 million units of general-purpose engines in November 2012, including production units from forerunner Fuji Sangyo Co., Ltd .
FHI began production of general-purpose engines in February 1951 with the gasoline general-purpose engine M6 at the Omiya plant of predecessor Fuji Sangyo Co., Ltd., and later, as FHI, the Robin KD11 engine was introduced in May 1956. Cumulative production of 10 million units was attained in July 1985 and 20 million units in March 2003. Since then, the additional 10 million unit production was achieved in 9 years and 8 months.
After the release of KD11 in 1956, FHI's general-purpose engine has been widely accepted as the Robin brand in its trademark yellow color, a highly reliable and heavy-duty power source that can be used for many purposes. From 2003, it has been in sales under the Subaru label as well. The engine is currently available in 38 models ranging from 89cc (2HP) to 720cc (28HP) displacement and welcomed in over 90 regions and countries around the globe for its dependability. The engines are employed in various products from construction machinery that can tolerate extreme conditions to generators and high-pressure washers for common use. FHI has been in development, manufacturing and marketing of general-purpose engines and applied products over a long span of time, one proof being the 45 years of providing vehicle engines for US company Polaris Industries since July 1968 that are based on its general-purpose engine technology.
On December 13, FHI held a commemoration at its Industrial Products Company Saitama Plant (Kitamoto, Saitama Prefecture) where the engines are assembled to celebrate the accomplishment of 30 million-unit general-purpose engine cumulative production. FHI was honored with congratulatory speeches by Kenji Ishizu, the mayor of Kitamoto city, and its suppliers. FHI expressed gratitude to the suppliers and the local community, as well as to all employees for their daily efforts, and pledged once again to remain delivering high quality engines to customers all over the world.
FHI will continue to be a global general-purpose engine manufacturer that satisfies the diverse needs of customers. FHI will further enhance its business and fulfill its mission to "Provide ‘Power’ to Support Human Living".
