OREANDA-NEWS. December 12, 2012. The Head of the Department of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS Russia) for Control over Chemical Industry and Agro-Industrial Complex took part in an international workshop on antimonopoly policy and enforcement organized at the FAS Training-and-Resource Centre in Kazan, reported the press-centre of FAS Russia.

At the session on antimonopoly control on the market of the products of chemical industry, Anna Mirochinenko discussed with the workshop participants controversial issues of supporting competition on this market faced by FAS and approaches used by the antimonopoly authority to resolve them. In particular, the Head of the FAS specialized Department covered the problems of pricing for the goods sold by the monopolists – suppliers of raw materials to the consumers that produce chemical products of a higher degree of processing and operate within the common technological complex.

At the session, a representative of the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, Attorney of the Competition Bureau, Melissa Westman-Cherry talked about antitrust enforcement in chemical industry in the USA and the most prominent cases investigated by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission on the market.

In the concluding part of the workshop, a lawyer of the Office for Competition Protection of the Czech Republic, Elena Bartakova, made a presentation about the specifics of the Czech market of petrochemical industry.
