OREANDA-NEWS. December 07, 2012. Valentin Gapanovich, Senior Vice President at Russian Railways, and Jochen Eickholt, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Business Unit Rail Automation, Siemens AG, Infrastructure & Cities Sector, announced the official start of production of a new batch of Sapsan trains for Russian Railways in Germany, reported the press-centre of RZD.

The production is under an agreement of 19 December 2011, according to which Siemens will supply Russian Railways with 8 Sapsan trains. Eight trains Sapsan manufactured by Siemens are currently in service in Russia, so the new order will double the size of the fleet.

The trains will be manufactured at the Siemens plant in Krefeld in Germany. The first trains are due to be delivered to Russia in late 2013, with the final deliveries scheduled for the end of May 2014. The new trains will enter service gradually as they arrive in Russia and undergo certification.
