Ukraine, EBRD Signed Agreement on Chernobyl Projects
OREANDA-NEWS. December 06, 2012. The First vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Valeriy Khoroshkovskyi has signed an agreement to amend the Grant agreement between the Government of Ukraine, the State Specialized Enterprise "Chernobyl NPP" and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The decision was taken by the Government of November 14, 2012.
The Bank will give Ukraine an additional grant in the amount of EUR190 million to complete the construction of a new safe confinement "Shelter" and nuclear waste storage facility at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. This contribution will be the last to collect the necessary 740 million Euros, of which 550 million was drawn on the results of the International Donors' Conference on 19 April 2011 in Kiev.
"The signing of this agreement was the result of joint efforts of the Ukrainian Government, the EBRD and the international community aimed at transforming the" Shelter "into an ecologically safe system. Its practical implementation will also help to solve the economic and social issues related to the decommissioning of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant", Valeriy Khoroshkovskyi said.
