OREANDA-NEWS. December 04, 2012. A competition in using drafting software AutoCAD called CADrina took place in the Kadrina Hobby Centre. The winner was the team from Kadrina Secondary School. In cooperation with the Maru Group, Swedbank handed out a special award – a financial award combined with a practical field trip. This was given to the vocational centre Salpaus Further Education from Finland, reported the press-centre of Swedbank.

The goal of this competition was to use computer-aided drafting software in order to show young people the importance and increasing influence of engineering professions in the development of Estonian society.

“In order to have a competetive edge, modern Estonia needs strong engineering skills; people who can achieve something using their mind and hands are highly valued. For Swedbank, it is important to support initiatives that promote technical thinking and a hands-on approach among young people. Whether it is CAD-drafting or building prototypes – either activity may produce something magnificent,” Robert Kitt, the Managing Director of Swedbank’s Corporate Banking said.

This was the third year for CADrina to take place. The participating teams were from Kadrina Secondary School, Tallinn University of Technology, Tallinn University of Applied Sciences, TUT Virumaa College and the vocational centre Salpaus Further Education from Finland.

In 2005, Kadrina Secondary School in cooperation with Aru Grupp AS launched an elective course called “Business Management and Basics of Technology”, which gives the secondary school students a thorough training in computer-aided drafting. The competition CADrina was launched for university and secondary school students in order to maintain a high educational level, propagate skills in engineering graphics among a wider audience and thus promote technical education among young people in Estonia. The participants compete in computer-aided drafting and they don’t just need skills in using CAD programs but also engineering creativity.
The patron of the competition is Ene Ergma.
