OREANDA-NEWS.  December 03, 2012. This is stated in the Organic Agriculture of Moldova: Local and Regional Outlook research made by Finasist Consulting Ltd for MIEPO. In 2011 the organic products made the 3% share in the export of foods and agricultural products from Moldova and 5% of the export of crops, fruit and vegetables. Most farmers don’t believe in the organic agriculture.

That is why the growth in organic land areas is expected to slow down or even to turn into the decline. In line with the base scenario, the export of organic products from Moldova may reach 86-87 mln. euros by 2026, the research runs. If the worse scenario is developed, which means that organic lands will make 3% only of all agricultural lands, the organic food export will reach close to 60 mln. euros by 2026.

To compare, in 2011 the export made up 15 mln. euros. According to researcher, there is no local market for organic food in Moldova, whereas in the EU this market is constantly growing. Thus, the researchers advise to orient organic production at export at the first stage.

Organic production is advantageous because it costs more expensive, restore the balance between human activity and environment, develop related sectors such as ecotourism, etc.
