Klaipeda Port Increases Handling Volumes
OREANDA-NEWS. November 30, 2012. The aggregated throughput of sea – born cargo in Klaipeda Port and Butinges terminal in January – October of 2012 totalled 36,1 million tons, the overall year – on - year change was -5,7 percent down. 29,2 million tons were handled in Klaipeda Seaport throughout the analysed period, the year-on-year change was -5,1 pct. or -1,6 million tn, meanwhile Butinges terminal handled 6,9 million tn, the year-on-year change was -8,1 pct. or -0,6 million tn., reported the press-centre of Klaipeda Port.
Within the period of January – October of 2012 the cargo turnover comparing with the corresponding period of 2011 the handling volumes of agriculture products (+609,7 thou. tn yoy), raw and processed minerals and construction materials (+394,0 thou. tn yoy) and iron ore (+219,1 thou. tn yoy) and) marked an increase.
The most significant drop down in cargo turnover throughout January – October of 2012 comparing with the corresponding period of 2011 occurred due to decreased handling volumes of bulk natural and chemical fertilizers (-1 635,6 thou. tn yoy), oil products (-838,3 thou. tn yoy) and crude oil (-612,6 thou. tn yoy).
In terms of cargo groups the handling volumes of liquid cargo decreased by 8,6 pct. yoy to 15 312,9 thou. tn (42,5 pct. of overall Port handling turnover). ). Dry and bulk cargo handling volumes decreased by 4,7 pct. yoy, the handling rates of this cargo category were 11 618,6 thou. tn (32,2 pct. of overall Port handling turnover).
General cargo handling volumes decreased by 1,6 pct. yoy, the overall turnover in this cargo group was 9 140,3 thou. tn (25,3 pct. of overall Port handling turnover).
5 974 vessels were reported to call Klaipeda Port and Butinges terminal throughout the period of January – October of 2012. 69 vessels (-9,2 pct. or less by 7 vessels yoy) moored at Butinges terminal. 4 073 international vessels (more by 27 vessels or +0,7 pct year-on-year) and 1 832 domestic ships ( more by 11 ships or 0,6 pct. yoy) were reported to call Klaipeda Port. Throughout the foregoing period of the current year 5 905 vessels were reported to call the Seaport of Klaipeda, hence the number of vessels calling Klaipeda Port increased by 38 vessels or by +0,6 pct. comparing with the corresponding period of 2011. The number of passengers calling the Port throughout the analysed period was 303 097, i.e. more by 7,1 pct. or by 20 217 passengers comparing with the corresponding period of 2011.
